BOWMANVILLE -- A child struck by a car while riding a bike not far from a major fire in Bowmanville was rushed to hospital late Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened about 5 p.m. at the intersection of Church and Silver Streets just north of the blaze that badly damaged several businesses.
One bystander said that firefighters ran from the scene to help the boy.
Another eyewitness, Gemma Clement, said she saw the boy riding his bike southbound on Silver Street just before he was struck by a small sport utility vehicle.
"When I ran up to him and saw him there was no response. We tried asking him what his name was but there was no response," she said.
Emergency crews were able to revive the boy.
He appeared to be moving afterward while he was being treated by paramedics, however, there was no immediate update on his condition.
