SCUGOG TOWNSHIP -- A Saturday morning fire has destroyed the Skye Motel on Hwy. 7/12 in Scugog Township, northwest of Port Perry.

The fire broke out at the highway landmark about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and swept through the single level building on the west side of the highway at Blue Mountain Road.

Fire officials say 4 units were occupied in addition to the owner's residence, however, no injuries are reported.

Flames could be seen up to 10 km away -- under a clear night sky -- as far away as Little Britain.

Port Perry fire department was first on the scene and called in support from several area departments.

Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $750,000.  A car and pickup truck were also destroyed.

One local fire official says the cause is not believed to be suspicious.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office arrived on the scene late Saturday morning as part of the investigation to determine what sparked the blaze.
