Boy, 14, in fatal crash had own car

Nov 20, 2007 - 07:36 AM

AJAX -- A 14 year old will make a second court appearance this morning on two counts of criminal negligence causing death in connection with an accident that killed two other teens.

And the boy's family says the fact he owned the car is a complete surprise.

The boy's sister told the Toronto Star that the family had no idea he had a car or where he got it.

"It was a big surprise to all of us. Someone gave him the car and we're trying to find out who."

She said she didn't know who, if anyone, might have taught him to drive.

The 14-year-old got the 1991 Mazda MX-6 on Friday.

Police yesterday confirmed the Mazda belonged to the driver but is registered to someone else.

Two 15 year old boys, one from Etobicoke and the other from Lavalle, Que., were killed when the car went out of control Sunday morning on Audley Road north of Taunton Road in Ajax.

All three boys were students at a private Islamic school located not far from the accident scene.

The 14-year-old, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, made a brief appearance in bail court via a video link Monday and will be taken to an Oshawa court for a bail hearing Tuesday morning.
