AJAX -- The 14-year-old boy charged with criminal negligence causing death after two 15-year-old passengers died in a horrific crash on Audley Road Sunday, appeared by video conference in Oshawa bail court Monday.

The youth, dressed in a hospital gown and with his ear bandaged, showed little emotion as he was asked to state his name and birth date while he conferred with duty counsel. He was arrested and held after being treated at Rouge Valley Health-Ajax.

The boy’s 20-year-old brother and his 18-year-old sister were in Oshawa bail court to watch proceedings. His brother expressed shock that he was still in a hospital gown and said he was told by the boy that he was ejected from the car, that he broke his shoulder and some ribs and that his neck hurt.

The 20-year-old added that the family had only lived in Ajax a few months and said family members of the accused did not know the two boys who died in the crash.

Justice of the Peace Carl Young adjourned the hearing until Tuesday when the accused is expected to appear with a lawyer at bail court in Oshawa.
