Eight Durham beaches unsafe for swimming
DURHAM -- The majority of beaches in Durham Region have been posted as unsafe for swimming.
Beaverton Beach South and Thorah Centennial Park, both in Brock Township, Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West, both in Oshawa, Elgin Pond in Uxbridge, Kinsmen Beach in Scugog, Frenchman's Bay West in Pickering and Rotary Park in Ajax have all been posted.
Each week, the Region takes water samples at 15 beaches and has them tested at a ministry of health laboratory in Peterborough. Water is tested for bacteria levels and those with elevated counts are posted as unsafe for swimming.
Samples are taken on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week.
