Durham -- Three local conservation authorities covering a large part of Durham have issued high water safety bulletins.
The bulletins cover the lakeshore communities of Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa, most of Clarington and the Lake Simcoe area of Brock Township. The conditions around Lake Scugog, including north Clarington, Scugog Township and east Brock Township, remain normal.
While no flooding is anticipated, the combination of rain and melting snow means faster flows in local streams and rivers and higher water levels. Residents, especially children, should avoid rivers and ponds and consider them to be dangerous.
"The banks of rivers and streams are dangerous places to be; they're slippery and can give way as the river thaws out," said Toronto and Area Conservation Authority flood duty officer Ryan Ness last week.
These conditions are expected to last until Thursday or Friday.
