If buses are no GO -- here's how to GO
Jan 03, 2008 - 02:19 PM
DURHAM -- Residents can look to Durham Region Transit (DRT) to fill in the gaps should GO bus drivers hit the picket lines next week.
The current tentative strike date is Jan. 7. There would be no GO bus service in the event of a strike, but trains would run as scheduled.
Durham Region Transit operates several routes parallel to GO service in the region.
- 915 Taunton offers frequent service, including weekends, from the Pickering GO station via Bayly and Westney to Taunton and Simcoe to Durham College and UOIT.
- 916 Rossland offers frequent and direct service to and from the Pickering and Ajax GO stations to Durham College and UOIT.
- 922 Bloor/Victoria offers rush hour service to and from the Whitby GO station, connecting with the Oshawa GO station and Courtice.
- 6 White Oaks offers service from Jeffrey and McQuay in Whitby via Kendalwood and Burns to the Oshawa Centre.
- 2 King offers service from Oshawa Centre to Courtice Road.
DRT said passengers should anticipate delays due to general heavier traffic congestion and possible disruptions at GO stations. There will be alternative bus stop locations next to the GO stations should there be picketing at GO station entrances.
The co-fare agreement allowing GO train riders to transfer to DRT buses at a reduced rate will stay intact. The "one fare anywhere" agreement which allows DRT passengers to travel on GO buses within the region will be suspended.
