OWEN SOUND – Tyler Taylor scored the game winning goal in the ninth round of the shootout for the Oshawa Generals Saturday night as they defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-3.
Both teams went miss-for-miss and goal-for-goal through the first eight rounds of the shootout before goaltender Kevin Bailie stopped Owen Sound’s Keevin Cutting, setting the stage for Taylor who beat Attack goalie Tyler Beskorowany.
Conor Stokes, playing in just his sixth game as a General, scored his third and fourth goals with the club in the third period to turn a 3-1 deficit into a tie game, forcing overtime. Shea Kewin, playing in just his second game since returning from a broken leg, assisted on both goals.
Brett Parnham had the other Oshawa tally, a first period marker that opened the scoring.
Daryl Borden started in goal for Oshawa, but was yanked after allowing three goals on 26 shots, the final one coming off the stick of Pickering’s Andrew Wilkins, who beat him at 16:06 of the second for Owen Sound’s third goal in just over 10 minutes.
Bailie blanked the attack from that point on, making 18 saves in just over 28 minutes of action prior to the shootout.
The Generals, 6-4, have won two straight and will host the London Knights Monday at the General Motors Centre (2:05 p.m.)
