Suspicious package at Ritson and Rossland

Sep 29, 2008 - 03:09 PM

OSHAWA -- Traffic at a major intersection in north Oshawa was disrupted Monday afternoon as police investigated a suspicious package found in a church parking lot.

Police were called to the parking lot at Hillsdale Wesleyan Church at Ritson and Rossland roads shortly before 12:30 p.m., Durham police spokesman Dave Selby said.

The parking lot was sealed off and traffic in the area restricted as police investigated.

"We've closed the intersection down as a precaution just until we find out what this (package) is," Mr. Selby said.

"We're keeping cars and pedestrians out of the area as a precaution."

A bomb disposal unit used a robot to destroy the package shortly before 3:30 p.m. and police are still investigating what was inside.
