Man burned in weekend attack

Police on the scene in downtown Oshawa

Sep 15, 2008 - 10:38 AM

OSHAWA -- Police are releasing few details about an apparent attack in downtown Oshawa Saturday morning that left a man with burns to a significant part of his body.

No details of the incident had been released by Durham cops as of Monday morning. A source said homicide detectives have taken over the case, but those investigators are staying tight-lipped about details of the incident.

Police tape surrounded a residence on John Street east of Simcoe Street following the incident, to which police responded at about 8 a.m. Saturday. Police also cordoned off sections of nearby Memorial Park and forensics officers could be seen gathering evidence at both locations.

A source said a man had been injured in a residence in the area, sustaining burns to about 50 per cent of his body. That information has not been officially confirmed by Durham police. Media officer Sergeant Paul McCurbin said investigators have not provided information on the incident.

Officers remained on scene throughout the weekend.
