OSHAWA -- Fond remembrances of Pat Gostlin are crossing party lines, with Oshawa MP Colin Carrie recalling her as a "classy" woman.
Ms. Gostlin ran against Dr. Carrie, the Conservative MP, in Oct. 14's election.
"She ran a clean and classy campaign," Dr. Carrie said of Ms. Gostlin, the Green candidate who was killed by an alleged drunk driver early Sunday morning, in a crash at the intersection of Park Road South and John Street in Oshawa. "She kept it clean and above-board."
Not only that, but "she was hard to debate against, because she knew her stuff."
When it became clear, election night, that Dr. Carrie had been re-elected "she came by, congratulated me, and spent some time at my victory party."
Ms. Gostlin's death is a great loss, he added.
"Oshawa, Durham and the country are losing someone who dedicated their life to something important," he said.
"I have the utmost respect for her and I'm going to miss her."
