AJAX -- Once again, local residents can slip into their sneakers and help fight cancer.
The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research is set for Sunday, Sept. 14 at Rotary Park on Lake Driveway West.
Local organizer Paul Leduc said this year is special as Terry Fox would have celebrated his 50th birthday.
Last year, more than $22,000 was raised at the Ajax event and organizers are hoping to top that amount.
"It's a very inclusive event and by no means is it for runners only," Mr. Leduc said.
"Having suffered through a 30-kilometre run myself, I can only shake my head at the magnitude of his achievement in running 42 kilometres every day of his journey. Doing so on one leg seems simply unimaginable," Mr. Leduc said.
The route covers five kilometres and participants can run, walk, cycle, skate, or take any other transportation method they can come up with.
Registration at Rotary Park starts at 8:30 a.m., with the run beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the route remains open until noon.
Pledge forms are available on-line at
www.terryfoxrun.org and can be downloaded.
