Football star arrested in Saskatoon

OSHAWA -- A man accused of attempted murder in a Pickering shooting incident remains in custody, awaiting a bail hearing.
Adrian Charles, 22, appeared in an Oshawa courtroom by video Tuesday morning and told a justice of the peace he's awaiting word on when he'll be granted a bail hearing. Any bid for release would be heard by a judge in Superior Court.
Mr. Charles was arrested earlier this month in Saskatoon after Durham cops identified him as a suspect in a shooting incident May 24 in Pickering. Police said several shots were fired at a moving vehicle near an industrial plaza at Bayly and Brock streets. The vehicle was struck by bullets but neither of the people inside was hurt, police said.
Mr. Charles is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. Police said they're investigating at least two other persons of interest.
Mr. Charles had been living in Saskatchewan, where he is a star running back for the Saskatoon Hilltops of the Canadian Junior Football League.
