Conservation authority seeks 'heroes'

Uxbridge invited to send nominations

Jul 17, 2008 - 03:16 PM

UXBRIDGE -- A local conservation authority is looking for 'heroes' of the environment.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) has put out the call for nominations for 'Watershed Heroes', six conservation awards under the categories of water conservation, soil conservation, education award, media recognition award, conservation award of merit or the George R. Richardson Award of Honour. The latter award "recognizes those who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to improving the environmental health of Lake Simcoe," reads a release from LSRCA.

Nominees can come from a wide area, according to the group. "From the Oro-Moraine to the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Uxbridge Brook sub-watershed to the Ramara Flats, the LSRCA is seeking nominations."

Nominations should be submitted to the LSRCA before Friday, Aug. 8. Visit www.lsrca.on.ca/nominate to submit nominations online or print the nomination form. This year's award ceremony is set for Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Madsen's Greenhouse in Newmarket.
