PICKERING -- The No. 1-seeded Dunbarton High School Spartans have qualified for the quarter-finals at the provincial high school 'AAA' senior boys' hockey championships in Ottawa. The Spartans (3-1-0), which finished second in pool 'A' behind the St. Michael's College Double Blue (4-0-0), will play the third-seeded A.B. Lucas Vikings of London, which finished atop pool 'B' with a 3-0-1 mark. The quarter-final game is slated for today (Friday) at 2:30 p.m. Dunbarton played twice on Thursday, defeating the 20th-seeded Fellowes school from Pembroke 4-3 and, later in the day, scored a narrow 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Forest Heights of Kitchener in a must-win game where the Spartans' playoff life hung in the balance. The Spartans broke out to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Brad McAllister and Colin Campbell. Forest Heights scored its lone goal of the game late in the second period. There was no scoring in the final period. Andrew Leclair drew an assist on McAllister's marker. Meanwhile, in the Fellowes contest, Campbell, with two, including the game winner, Mike Marshall and Chris Wright scored for the Spartans. Assisting were Mike Purcell with three, Campbell and Alex Fortin with one apiece. Twenty teams from across Ontario are competing at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships.
