OTTAWA -- If the Oshawa Generals had their sight set on a series sweep against the Ottawa 67’s, they can certainly eye one now.

The Generals took a commanding three games to zero lead in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series last night in the nation’s capital with a 2-1 victory over the 67’s.

The victory comes on the heels of a pair of weekend wins at the General Motors Centre to open the series by scores of 3-2 and 5-2.

The offence was slow in getting going on Tuesday night, as Brett Parnham scored 2:18 into the second period on a rebound to put the Generals on the board. His goal was followed by a power play marker by James DeLory, who ripped a shot from the blueline that sailed past 67’s netminder Adam Courchaine.

Ryan McGinnis assisted on both goals.

The 67’s managed to make things interesting in the final minute. Jamie McGinn scored on the power play and with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker with just 1:02 remaining in regulation time to pull his team to within one.

But Oshawa netminder Michal Neuvirth made a couple of stops off of faceoffs in the final seconds to preserve the victory.

Neuvirth looked sharp on the night, facing 47 shots on net, while the Generals fired just 24 on Courchaine.

Game 4 of the series will be played in Ottawa on Thursday night at 7 p.m., with Game 5, if necessary, back in Oshawa on Friday at 7:35 p.m.

AJ Groen / Metroland Oshawa Generals forward Patrick Asselin failed in this first period wrap around attempt during Sunday’s OHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal game against the Ottawa 67’s at the General Motors Centre. The Generals took a three games to zero lead in the series on Tuesday night after registering a 2-1 victory in Ottawa.
