Teenaged girl grabbed, forced into van

Victim was confined, touched: police

Sep 25, 2008 - 12:28 PM

OSHAWA -- Charges have been laid against an Ajax man suspected of abducting and sexually assaulting a teenaged girl Wednesday afternoon in Oshawa.

The 17-year-old victim told Durham police she was walking along Wolfe Street near Ritson Road in south Oshawa shortly after noon when a man driving a van pulled up and ordered her inside.

When the girl refused, the man grabbed her, pinned her hands behind her back and forced her into the vehicle, police said. The victim told police she was touched inappropriately by the suspect as he drove the van north.

The girl convinced the suspect she was due for a co-op work assignment and was dropped off at a plaza in the area of Taunton and Harmony roads, police said. Cops were alerted and later in the day arrested a suspect in a van matching the description provided by the victim in the same area she'd been dropped off.

Kenneth Barrington Shaw, 40, of MacDermott Drive in Ajax, is charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement.
