Close call as crane topples

House struck by boom in Beaverton

May 03, 2008 - 02:39 PM

By Ian Caldwell

BEAVERTON -- There was a close call in Beaverton Saturday as a heavy crane toppled forward sending the boom crashing into the corner of one house.

The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. as work crews were cutting down a large tree on Beechwood Avenue.

An upper section was being hoisted away when the weight of the trunk caused the crane to topple forward and brought the boom down on the corner of a home.

The wheels of the crane platform tilted up into the air as the operator’s cab went forward, however, the operator was able to get out safely and none of the workers on the ground were hurt.
