15 to 20 centimetres of snow could be headed to southern Ontario

DURHAM -- A weather system brewing in the Gulf of Mexico could bring a blast of winter to southern Ontario and possibly up to 20 centimetres of snowfall depending on the track that the storm follows.
The low-pressure system is expected to emerge off the gulf coast of Texas or Louisiana Saturday.
Forecasters said Friday afternoon that it's too early to know which route the storm will follow, however, if it remains on the path it's on, we could be in for a good whack of winter.
"What really is the challenge right now is to determine the exact trajectory that this low-pressure system is going to take," Environment Canada warning preparedness meteorologist Geoff Coulson told newsdurhamregion.com.
"If it goes a little bit further south than current indications are showing, we may see smaller amounts of snow, especially along the lower Great Lakes area," he said.
"If it tracks a little further to the north, we may actually be looking at somewhat enhanced values for the accumulations".
Look for rain turning to snow late Sunday, and then a shot of snow on Monday.
Environment Canada will be updating its forecast around mid-day on Saturday with a storm watch.
And by late Saturday or early Sunday forecasters should have a better handle on what kind of snowfall we'll get and just how difficult the Monday morning rush hour will be.
