Oshawa woman killed in Toronto crash

An Oshawa woman has been killed in a overnight crash in Toronto and police say upwards of eight hours passed before her car was found off the road in a ditch.

The woman, 58, was in a car travelling eastbound along Highway 2A between Lawson Road and Highway 401 in Toronto when it went out of control. The vehicle drifted off the road and smashed into a tree, throwing the woman through the driver’s side window.

She wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Toronto Police Sgt. Tim Burrows.

The stretch of road where the crash occurred is lined trees and bushes and it isn't well lit, he said, making it difficult for passersby to spot the woman or her car.

“Both headlights were broken and the tail lights were facing eastbound and covered by the bush. So the vehicle was pretty hard to see,” he said.

Upon realizing his wife hadn’t returned to their Oshawa home Friday morning, the woman’s husband drove around the area in search of her car, Sgt. Burrows said.

The victim's name has not been released by investigators.

Anyone with information about the crash, or who might have seen the black Hyundai driving in the area anytime between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., is asked to call Toronto Police at 416-808-1900.
