OSHAWA -- An Oshawa mother stabbed to death in a brutal knife attack at a family birthday party Saturday is being remembered on Facebook as shock turns to mourning today.
Neighbours identified Leslie Kelly as the woman who died after the stabbing Saturday afternoon at 1010 Glen St. in the Wentworth Road and Park Street area of south Oshawa.
"Rest in Peace Leslie Kelly" -- a newly created page on Facebook -- has now begun to serve as a gathering place for those who knew the mother, her husband and children.
"Leslie Kelly was brutally murdered November 29th, 2008," the tribute page begins.
"Her husband Rick was also attacked and received several stab wounds. Their two children, Nathan and Riley, were also attacked and Nathan is in critical condition in Toronto."
"Leslie, my dear, you will be missed more than you will ever know, you have been a great friend to so many," Debbie Mcgray-Smith said in her online posting.
"My heart goes out to you, Rick, and the boys, and Leslie's parents. I can't imagine your pain."
One area resident who didn't know the family personally has offered condolences.
"This is a terrible loss and very sad," said Julie Edwards, who lives in the same complex and didn't know the family members but had seen them in passing.
"The children and Rick are in my prayers"
Police and the province's special investigations unit were still on the scene this morning after the brutal incident.
Leslie Kelly was stabbed, as were her husband and two children. Cops have not officially released the victims' names. However, neighbours said it was the Kellys who were attacked.
Rick Kelly and one of the children were critically injured and a second child is also being treated in hospital for stab wounds.
A police officer shot and killed a 47-year-old man after a confrontation at another townhouse unit in the same complex. His name has not been released. Area residents said the police officer was acting in self-defence.
