WHITBY -- A special walkathon will honour the memory of Terry Fox during the original Marathon of Hope van's visit to Whitby at the end of the week.
It will be the only stop in Durham Region for the 1980 Ford Econoline that is travelling to 50 cities across Canada.
Nearly 30 years since Mr. Fox attempted to run across the country to raise money for cancer research, efforts in his name still continue to this day.
The tour has been organized by the Terry Fox Foundation in partnership with Scotia-McLeod and Mr. Fox's family and friends will be there to greet the public. Councillor Gerry Emm will also be present for the event.
The 3-kilometre walk will take place on Friday, July 25, at the Whitby Yacht Club on Gordon Street. Registration is at 6 p.m. and the walk will begin at 7 p.m. Bikes and wheelchairs are welcome.
Pick up pledge forms for the walk at any Scotiabank branch in the region. For more information, call 905-444-4502 or send an e-mail to laurel_armstrong@scotiacapital.com.
