Shortened Shakespearean works back on stage

Hilarious play being produced in Toronto

Mar 20, 2008 - 08:29 AM

DURHAM -- The team that brought The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) to the stage, is back at it again.

Jeremy Smith, founder and artistic director of Driftwood Theatre, stage manager Stephanie Nakamura and actors Steven Burley, Christopher Darroch and Peter Nichol are once again staging the hilarious play, which condenses the Bard's 37 plays and 154 sonnets into 90 hilarious minutes. In 2005, the play broke records for attendance and proceeds at Driftwood's summer locations.

This time it's at the Papermill Theatre, Todmorden Mills, 67 Pottery Rd., Toronto.

The group formed Sansanus Productions which entertains and raises funds for groups such as Driftwood, which stages Shakespeare in parks throughout Durham Region and southern Ontario each summer.

Performances are March 26 to April 6, with tickets at $15 for seniors and students, $25 general admission. For information and tickets, e-mail sansanus.productions@gmail.com or call 416-371-1438.
