Open to all amateur shutterbugs

Jul 11, 2008 - 04:57 PM

AJAX -- Focus in, shutterbugs.

The Ajax and Black's Superstore 2008 Amateur Photography Contest is again being held and it's open to photographers from across Durham Region.

There are three age categories -- children up to 12 years, youths 13 to 18 years, and adults.

Photo categories include This is My Ajax; People in Motion, People at Play; Nature 1 (wildlife and pets); Nature 2 (land, seascapes and flowers); and black and white.

There are also plenty of prizes, including the overall Best in Show. Prizes are also given out for the best in each category, for the first, second and third in each age group, and honourable mentions.

The contest closes Sunday, Aug. 17 and you can enter as often as you like. Photographs must have been taken within the last two years.

Entries can be dropped off at the Ajax Black's Superstore in the Durham Centre. If entering more than one picture, use a different application form each time. Attach the form to the back of an 8-by-10 or an 8-by-12 inch picture.

All entries become the property of the Town and will not be returned.

The contest is open only to amateur photographers.

An exhibit of winning photographs will be held at the McLean Community Centre, at the corner of Westney Road and Magill Drive, from Sept. 8 to Oct. 27. An awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at the McLean centre.

Last year, the Best in Show was Optical Illusion, by Natasha Foley. She was also the winner in the youth division, in the black and white picture category.

More than 600 photographs were entered.

A copy of the entry form, including all the rules, is available at www.townofajax.com.

For more information, call 905-619-2529, ext. 7232.
