WHITBY -- A Whitby man has been arrested for an armed robbery last week at a bank in Markham.

York police busted the suspect Saturday at his residence, seizing a pellet gun and recovering a quantity of cash they say was stolen during the robbery at a TD branch on Main Street North in Markham April 28.

Police said a suspect waiting inside an ATM vestibule accosted bank employees as they arrived for work at 7:30 a.m., pulling a gun and forcing his way inside with them. The bandit ordered the workers to fill a bag with cash before fleeing, police said.

Investigation by York's holdup squad, backed up by crime scene forensics officers, led to Saturday's arrest, police said.

Richard Dean Jones, 40, of Whitby, faces robbery and weapons charges as well as two counts of forcible confinement.
