OSHAWA -- An Oshawa trucker remains in custody in the United States, accused of attempting to smuggle a huge cache of marijuana across the border.

U.S. customs and Border Protection officers made the discovery of 125 kilograms of marijuana concealed in boxes among a shipment of aircraft parts destined for New Jersey on Sunday. A gamma-ray scan of the truck's contents tipped officers off to the illicit cargo, officials said.

Inside the truck inspectors found seven undeclared boxes packed with 280 vacuum-sealed bags filled with pot.

"The marijuana . . . has a street value of approximately $800,000," Customs spokesman Kevin Corsaro said in a statement.

Gordon Sample, 39, of Oshawa, has been charged with importation and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was turned over to agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department and was being held in Buffalo, N.Y.
