OSHAWA -- A woman and her son are facing drug charges after police investigating a break-in at an Oshawa home discovered evidence of a marijuana grow operation.
Durham police said officers responding to a report at a home on Matterhorn Street in the area of Taunton and Harmony roads Wednesday detected a strong smell of marijuana and noticed a number of seedlings in a basement room. Several plants were also found growing in a backyard garden, police said.
Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit seized 12 plants in various stages of growth as well as 324 grams of marijuana leaves. Total value of the drugs has been estimated at just more than $20,000.
Charged with production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking are Walter Duck, 38, and 60-year-old Doris Duck, both of Matterhorn Street.
