OSHAWA -- The Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres will be launching a unique fitness program this winter -- urban pole walking.
Also known as Nordic walking, the activity is like cross-country skiing without the skis. Participants walk using a pair of poles, which burns up to 46 per cent more calories than regular walking and gives an increased cardiovascular workout.
"It is a phenomenal way to fitness that is easy to learn and fun to do," said Laura Clements, a certified urban pole walking instructor. "Lose weight, increase muscle, improve posture and get a great cardio workout without the joint and knee pain of jogging. Once you try it, you will never want to go walking without poles again."
The class starts in February. Poles will be provided. For more details or to register contact 905-576-6712 or visit www.oscc.ca.
