DURHAM -- Anyone connected to municipal water in Newcastle is asked to conserve use immediately.
The Newcastle water supply plant, which also serves Newtonville, has had algae enter its filtration system and slow down water processing. Residents are asked by the Region to use water only for essential purposes and refrain from outdoor use, such as car washing and excessive lawn watering, to help ensure water is available for fighting fires.
Residents will be notified when normal use can resume.
About 2,500 homes and commercial customers are connected to the Newcastle supply system.
