Writers' Circle welcomes publishing pros to June 13 breakfast meeting

Jun 04, 2009 - 04:30 AM

WHITBY -- Hear from and pick the brains of a panel of publishing experts at the Writers' Circle of Durham Region's June 13 breakfast meeting.

The WCDR has invited an expert panel to the meeting to discuss the latest in book publishing and retailing. Panelists such as Carolyn Forde, an agent with Toronto's Westwood Creative Artists Ltd., will share their thoughts on the state of independent book publishing, covering topics such as how the current economy is affecting the world of books.

Each panelist will speak for four to five minutes and then take part in a moderated discussion, fielding questions from the audience.

Immediately after the meeting, Jessica Outram, StoneCircle Theatre's playwright-in-residence, presents Scriptwriting Basics, a one-hour workshop for veteran and aspiring playwrights.

The meeting is from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at J P Fitzpatrick and Son, located in the Whitby Entertainment Centrum at 75 Consumers Rd. (west of Thickson Road). The cost, including breakfast, is $15 for members and $20 for guests.

Outram's workshop is an additional $10 sign-up online or at the breakfast. Space is limited.

To attend the breakfast meeting and/or the workshop, register online at www.wcdr.org, by leaving a phone message at 905-686-0211, or by e-mailing breakfast2008@wcdr.org by noon on June 11.
