Teen arrives in court for bail hearing after crash that killed two teens
OSHAWA -- The teen charged in a weekend accident that killed two 15-year-olds in Ajax has arrived at court in Oshawa where a bail hearing will be held today.
The boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, arrived at in the back of a police cruiser, still dressed in a hospital gown, shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday. He faces two counts of criminal negligence causing death.
The charges were laid after an accident on Audley Road, north of Taunton Road in Ajax Sunday morning. Police say the lone car crashed through a gate and flipped end over end. One 15-year-old was thrown from the vehicle and the other was pinned inside. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.
The 14-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries, was treated in hospital, and released to police custody.
Police Monday confirmed that the boy bought the 1991 Mazda MX6 but said it was registered to someone else.
The boy's sister told the Toronto Star that the family had no idea he had a car or where he got it.
"It was a big surprise to all of us. Someone gave him the car and we're trying to find out who."
She said she didn't know who, if anyone, might have taught him to drive.
All three boys were students at a private Islamic school located not far from the accident scene.
