BOWMANVILLE -- The Bowmanville Eagles may have finally found that level of consistency preached by head coach and general manager Curtis Hodgins.
"Let's hope so," Hodgins said optimistically, following a couple of big road victories over the weekend, which ran the team's win streak to three games in the Central Canadian Hockey League. "Three wins in a row is nice and it's been three regulation wins," Hodgins added. "That hasn't happened since early in the season and that's important because the tie-breaker is obviously regulation wins. Our guys played much better. Friday night was a great game and Saturday night was a tough road game but we did enough to win." Leading the way for the Eagles, now 13-8-2, in Saturday's victory over the Seguin Bruins was Mitch Moffatt with a pair of goals and three points in a 5-3 triumph. Matt Davis and Scott Sandercock each added a goal and an assist while Tommy Sumi also found the back of the net for Bowmanville. Both of Moffatt's goals came in the third period and on the power play, turning a 3-2 Eagles lead into a 5-2 advantage. Seguin managed a power-play marker of its own late in the game, but it was too little, too late against the Eagles and netminder Jackson Teichroeb, who made 31 saves. Friday night in Hamilton, Luke Bierworth stopped 17 of 18 shots while Michael Markovic provided all the offence, scoring three times in a 3-1 victory. His goals came in a 5:10 span in the second period, the first two on the power play and the third with just 12 seconds remaining in the period. Bowmanville's next three games are at home, two of which come this weekend with a Friday tilt against the Burlington Cougars (7 p.m.) and a Sunday afternoon (1:30) affair with the Lindsay Muskies. "Friday is going to be a heck of a challenge for us. Burlington may be the best team on the other side. They have a tonne of offence. They are scoring six, seven, eight, nine goals a game, so that'll be a great challenge for us," Hodgins said. NOTES: Defenceman Nick Kucera has been sent down to play with the Port Perry MoJacks of the Central Ontario Jr. C Hockey League ... Michael Markovic leads the Eagles in scoring with 12 goals and 30 points in 23 games.
