WHITBY -- Derek Hopcroft had two goals and two assists and Kurtis Wagar made 39 saves as the Brooklin Redmen registered just their second win of the season Wednesday, 6-4 over the visiting Peterborough Lakers Wednesday.

With it, the Redmen improved to 2-5 for the Major Series Lacrosse season, while the Lakers dropped to 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, and four goals aside in the second, Geoff Griffiths scored what proved to be the winner 3:22 into the final frame, and Hopcroft added some insurance 6:05 later.

Wagar was strong in goal, but didn't get to finish the game, as he was charged with an illegal equipment minor and game misconduct with 1:16 remaining for wearing flared leg pads. Mike Miron finished up.

Captain Shawn Williams also scored twice, and added an assist, bringing his league-leading totals to 12-18-30 through seven games.

Griffiths had a goal and an assist, while Scott Campbell scored the other Brooklin goal. Steve Hutchins and Colin Baker each had a pair of assists.

Nick Cotter, of Whitby, scored twice for the Lakers, while snipers Matt Giles and Shawn Evans were held to just one goal each.

The Redmen are back in action next Wednesday against the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, 8 p.m. at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre. They travel to Brampton the next night to face the Mann Cup champion Excelsiors.
