WHITBY -- Durham Region residents can join millions of people from more than 3,000 cities in the world celebrating Peace Day on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Whitby will be taking the helm this year for the first time to host the Global Mala Yoga Festival, a collaborative event organized by yoga studies across Durham Region to promote peace and tranquility. "We hope that by hosting this day we will bring awareness of personal and global peace through yoga in a world yearning for peace," event organizer Sheree Nicholson said. The non-profit event will donate all proceeds to various local charities. It will run all day at the Heydenshore Pavilion at 589 Water St. right by the lake at the foot of Brock Road in Whitby. Residents can come together to enjoy inner and outer peace, meet others in their community, enjoy a family day at the nearby park and try yoga. Six indoor yoga classes will be offered at different levels so all can participate, including a class for children. The fee for the day (including six yoga classes and a guest speaker, among other activities) is $20 in advance or $25 at the door by cash or cheque only. Children under the age of 12 are free and teenagers are $10. To register, visit www.runningroom.com or for more information, contact Ms. Nicholson at 905-620-1151 or sheree@livewithspirit.ca.
