Jul 30, 2010 - 12:03 PM

OSHAWA -- a 79-year-old woman involved in a three-vehicle collision on Wednesday has died of her injuries.

Eva Catton, of Blackstock, died after her car was involved in a crash at Ritson and Winchester roads.

According to police reports, the elderly woman was driving a Lincoln north on Ritson Road when she failed to yield and was hit by a van driving west on Winchester Road. The Lincoln then collided with a Chevrolet Uplander that was stopped at the intersection.

Ms. Catton was trapped in her car and had to be removed by emergency responders. She was rushed to Lakeridge Health Oshawa and later transported to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

Ms. Catton died at St. Michael's Thursday night from her injuries. No post-mortem has been requested.

"It happened in a matter of two seconds," said Daniel Ryan, a passenger in the third vehicle. "We're fine, but I'm just worried about the lady," he said referring to the elderly driver.

The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and released, while the driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
