Police need help identifying Oshawa sex assault suspect

Jul 30, 2010 - 11:00 AM

OSHAWA -- Durham police are appealing to the public for help identifying a man who sexually assaulted a woman at an Oshawa bus stop.

Police say a 22-year-old Oshawa woman with special needs was waiting for a bus in the First Avenue and Simcoe Street South area at about 7:30 p.m. on July 22, when she was approached by a man.

He struck up a friendly conversation with her, then kissed the woman twice and touched her back.

When the bus arrived, the victim boarded and left the suspect behind.

The investigation is ongoing and police are looking to hear from anyone who might be able to identify the suspect.

He is described as white, between 20 and 25 years of age, six feet tall and clean shaven with long dark hair worn in a pony tail. He was wearing a baseball cap and dark clothing. Police say the man is known to frequent the Oshawa Centre and the public transit system and is often seen carrying a plastic grocery bag which he spins around in his hands.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Cst. Gill Lock at 905-579-1520 ext. 5323 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
