Fees going up at Durham university

Increases planned for tuition and ancillary costs

Mar 10, 2010 - 04:30 AM

DURHAM -- Tuition is going up at The University of Ontario Institute of Technology for the next school year as are ancillary fees.

The 2010-2011 year will see tuition go up an average of 4.7 per cent across all programs, slightly below the five per cent allowed under the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities guideline, according to a report presented at the UOIT's recent board of governors meeting. A new increase framework has not yet been introduced.

The UOIT tuition increases range from about $250 for full-time students in the arts and science category to $500 for those in the professional category. Graduate programs will go up by about $550 for all except the masters of information technology, which will go up $730 for a full year.

The international tuition fee will be increased by five per cent across the board.

The master of education program will go up 20 per cent, which is permitted because it's deregulated; it will go up to $11,500 from $9,500, according to the report.

Under compulsory ancillary fees, 1.32-per cent increases are planned for student organization, health/dental, athletic centre levy and ancillary.

An additional $80 U-pass fee for the summer will be implemented this year, as approved by a referendum.
