Feb 04, 2010 - 11:39 AM

BROCK -- One person is dead after a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles Wednesday evening near Beaverton.

Ontario Provincial Police closed Hwy. 12 for several hours following the crash, which occurred near Thorah Concession 4 at about 6:30 p.m. Police said a southbound Mercury Marquis had stopped to turn left onto Concession 4 when the car was rear-ended by a pick-up being driven by a 44-year-old Toronto man. The Marquis was pushed into the path of a northbound pick-up driven by a Brechin man, 33.

The driver of the Marquis, whose identity hasn't been released by OPP, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the two pick-ups were treated at hospital in Orillia for non life-threatening injuries.

Hwy. 12 was closed until early Thursday as police investigated the accident. No charges had been laid as of Thursday morning and the investigation continued.
