Stars enjoy success at tournaments

Major Atom A team goes deep in Orillia, Newmarket

UXBRIDGE -- The Uxbridge Stars Major Atom A team reached the semifinals in the Jim Wilson Chevrolet Minor Hockey Tournament held in Orillia.

Uxbridge started its run with a 3-3 tie against Welland Tigers. Goals scored by Jackson Evans and Jericho Petkovich (2) assisted by Sierra Orschel, Wyatt LaRoche and Ryan Norris. On Saturday morning Uxbridge came out strong and won 5-3 against Tillsonburg Tornados with goals were scored by Connor Lloyd (2), Robert Eliadis, Jericho Petkovich, Kyle Kincade and assists to Edmund Truter, Wyatt LaRoche, James Shepherd and Scott Stuart. The next game was against Bracebridge Bears and ended in a 5-1 win for the Stars. Jericho Petkovich scored four of the five goals and Connor Lloyd scored the other goal. Assists went to Robert Eliadis, Wyatt LaRoche, Caden Warr and Kyle Kincade.

The semifinal early Sunday was a nail biter against the hometown favourite Orillia Terriers. The game went into overtime and the Stars were narrowly defeated by the Terriers. Goals went to Wyatt LaRoche, Edmund Truter, Kyle Kincade, with two assists to Jericho Petkovich. Alex Chen and Dawson Whetham were awesome between the pipes. The tournament was won by the Orillia Terriers.

Uxbridge reached the final in the Newmarket 59th Annual Atom Tournament held early in December. Uxbridge flew out the gates with a strong performance against the Woolwich Wildcats resulting in a 3-2 win for the Stars. Points went to Edmund Truter (1g,1a), Jackson Evans (1g,1a), Jericho Petkovich (1g) and Scott Stuart (1a).

Uxbridge won the second game against Kitchener Jr Rangers 6-4. Points were recorded by James Shepherd (1g), Jackson Evans (2g), Edmund Truter (1g,2a), Seth Alison (1g), Kyle Kincade (1g), Jericho Petkovich (1a), Caden Warr (1a), Connor Lloyd (2a). The third game later in the day against Lorne Park Ojibwa ended in a 5-3 win for Uxbridge. Goalies Dawson Whetham and Alex Chen made many amazing stops to keep the Stars in the championship. Edmund Truter recorded a hat trick for the team. Points were also recorded by Wyatt LaRoche (1g), Connor Lloyd (1g), Seth Alison (1a), James Shepherd (1a), Chris Gilmour (1a) and Devon Brown (1a).

The semifinal game against Leaside Flames went to the Stars with a 3-1 win giving them a shot at the championship game. Goals scored by Robert Eliadis (2) and Edmund Truter (1). Assists to Jackson Evans, Jericho Petkovich and Ryan Norris. In the championship game against Waterloo Wolves the Stars came out strong and scored two goals in the first period by Jackson Evans and Kyle Kincade with assists going to Edmund Truter and James Shepherd, but the Wolves came out on top with a 5-2 victory.

Head coach Brad Evans, assistant coaches Todd LaRoche and Cliff Freckelton, trainer Rob Norris and team manager Martin Truter.
