Stars win gold in Montreal

Minor Peewees go undefeated at Canadian Cup

Dec 31, 2009 - 04:30 AM

MONTREAL -- The Uxbridge Stars Minor Peewee A hockey team, sponsored by the Ryan Waters Memorial Fund, reaped the rewards of its hard work and team play when they won the gold medal in the Canadian Cup in Montreal.

The Stars were undefeated in round robin play against the York Mills Rangers 4-0, Broncos 8-0 and Vikings 8-0. The final was a competitive rematch with York Mills, but Uxbridge came away with the 3-1 win. Alex Williamson was named MVP for the tournament.

The Minor Peewees had started off their season by attending an early bird Blue and Gold Tournament in Bradford where they didn't lose a game until the championship when they lost a close 3-2 match to the Belleville Minor Bulls.

In league play, the young Stars are having a great year boasting a 15-4-3 record and currently sitting in second place out of 10 teams in the Lakeshore, as they near the end of their season and head into playdowns.

The team is made up of Malcolm Barton, Andy Dynes, Robby Haines, Tristan Hanna, Jamie Kernohan, Paul Kerrigan, Braedon Kuhne, Jake Lee, Brett Oor, Tyler Orschel, Chris Pett, Carter Turnbull, Zachary Urquhart, Jesse Webber, Brennan Wiles and Alex Williamson. The team is coached by Mark Kernohan, Erin Oor and Eric Orschel, along with trainer Andrew Pett and managers Hilda and Wayne Barton.
