Nov 21, 2009 - 10:07 AM

Pickering -- Firefighters from Whitby, Ajax and Uxbridge were called to assist Pickering firefighters at a spectacular house fire in the north end of the city Friday night.

The fire, at 5240 4th Sideroad, was discovered by the owner who was returning home from work. The 2,500 sq.-ft. home is a combination of an older structure and new addition. The fire started in the older area of the home then spread. Firefighters were also concerned about two oil storage tanks in the basement.

No one was hurt and the investigation into the blaze is underway.
