CLARINGTON -- Starting Monday, the H1N1 vaccination clinic in Bowmanville is moving to a new location.

The new site is the vacant Rona building, at 205 Baseline Rd., at Regional Rd. 57.

The hours remain 2 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Glendene Collins, spokeswoman with the Durham Region Health Department, said the new location has benefits the current location doesn’t offer.

“People can line up inside the building, with the colder weather coming, rather than outside,” Ms. Collins stated.

The clinic at 2849 Hwy. 2 is on a busy road with limited parking, she added.

When the Region was looking for space for a clinic, the Hwy. 2 site was the only one found, Ms. Collins said.

After the clinic opened, the Rona building became available, she noted.

“While line-ups at area clinics have decreased, all clinics continue to see a steady flow of traffic of people receiving the H1N1 vaccine,” Dr. Robert Kyle, Durham Region Medical Officer of Health, said in a press release. “Now that vaccination clinics are open to the general public, we encourage everyone to get vaccinated to help protect themselves and others from H1N1 influenza.”

Almost 58,300 people have been vaccinated at clinics offered by Durham Region, while about 76,000 doses have been delivered to area doctors’ offices and local health care providers.
