Operation Scugog beneficiary of teens' collection efforts

More than 1,000 canned items collected in Port Perry on Oct. 31

Nov 18, 2009 - 09:21 AM

PORT PERRY -- A handful of young Scugog residents collected more than a thousand canned food items for Operation Scugog late last month as the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church parish teen group held its inaugural Halloween food drive.

Twelve teens, ranging from 12 to 16, of the parish group pulled large blue buckets and wagons around Port Perry and managed to collect around 1,040 non-perishable food items for Operation Scugog.

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church parish group, created in September, has already made a positive impact in the community with their first food collection and plan to continue doing so every Halloween, says John Peco.

"We'd really like to thank the community for their generous response to our recent Halloween food drive," he said. "Many families offered whatever they could, and some even provided large bags of food. We were really pleased to offer our community this service."
