Edmonton playwright to make appearance opening weekend

UXBRIDGE -- A play coming to the Uxbridge stage reminds people "we're all in this together," according to one of the main actors.
OnStage Uxbridge is gearing up for its latest offering, Blackpool and Parrish, opening at Uxbridge's Music Hall on Main Street South on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. A synopsis of the production explains the title characters gather at their personal club to talk shop and settle a chess match, but there's a twist -- the end of the world is expected the next day.
Harry Blackpool is played by Uxbridge's Roger Varley, while Peggy Wrightson steps in as Rachel Parrish. "As crazy as the play is, I think there's a message -- we're all in this together," noted Ms. Wrightson.
The play is directed by Colin Murphy, who is familiar to the north Durham stage, and produced by David Geene. "It's a very funny play ... it's wry, clever," noted Mr. Murphy, who contacted the author of the play, David Belke of Edmonton. As a result, the playwright will make an appearance following the first Saturday performance on Nov. 14.
Also starring in the production are John Steptoe, Sara Findlay, and Andrew Tite.
The show continues after opening night until Saturday, Nov. 14, also from Thursday, Nov. 19 to Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. with a 3 p.m. matinee on closing day. Tickets are $18 each, available at Brockstreet Music, online at
