Fallen Scugog soldier to be honoured at Blackstock park

Township to officially name greenspace in honour of Roy Carter at Nov. 9 ceremony

Nov 04, 2009 - 10:38 AM

BLACKSTOCK -- Scugog will pay tribute to one of its fallen soldiers on Monday when a Blackstock park is renamed in honour of Roy Carter.

A special ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 to dedicate Roy E. Carter Memorial Park, which will replace Crestview Park in the Blackstock suburban area.

Dignitaries from all levels of government, and perhaps a representative from the Netherlands, are expected to be on hand for the dedication service.

A reception will follow the ceremony at the Blackstock Armoury.

Roy Carter's plane was shot down over Holland in 1944 and, while he survived the crash, the Scugog man was executed after he was found hiding in a Dutch home.
