Uxbridge AE Stars win tournament

Defeat Orillia 4-1 in championship game

Oct 02, 2009 - 04:30 AM

UXBRIDGE -- The hockey season started off on a positive note as the Uxbridge Viper AE Stars won the Atom Division of the Uxbridge Earlybird Tournament.

The boys won in impressive fashion to become the only Uxbridge team to go all the way in this year's event.

Coach Ray Martin had the boys primed as they faced East Gwillimbury early Friday to kick off the three-day event. It was a close checking affair and in the end the teams skated to a well played 2-2 tie. Next up was the team from Orillia. After a strong start from both teams, the boys from Uxbridge overpowered the visiting young men from Orillia, chalking up an impressive 7-2 victory.

As a result of the strong performances, Uxbridge received a bye into the final game on Sunday.

It was another fine effort as the Orillia team battled to break the earlier deadlock. However, in the end, the Atom Vipers pulled off a strong 4-1 victory, sealing the game and winning the tournament in impressive style.

Team members include Maguire Chant, Liam Dalgleish, Alex Dodd, Jacob Fiedler, Eric Fonk, Liam Gallacher, Marley Georgiou, Josh Jamieson, Kyle Kinsella, Luke Martin, Carter Martin, Ryan Mogk, Jacob Phair, Evan Plummer and Jake Randall.
