Community holds toy drives, fundraisers for Kelly family

Dec 03, 2008 - 12:44 PM

OSHAWA -- The community is rallying to help the family at the centre of last weekend's brutal attack in south Oshawa.

On Nov. 29, mother of three Leslie Kelly was stabbed to death and her husband, Rick Kelly, and sons, Nathan, 3, and Riley, 5, were seriously injured when a man attacked them in their Glen Street townhouse.

Donations of money and Christmas gifts are now being collected at the following locations to help the surviving family through the holiday season and the coming months.

- The Tim Hortons store located at 1251 Simcoe St. N. is now accepting toy donations for the family

- Wal-Mart Peterborough, located at 1154 Chemong Rd. is accepting monetary donations and has vowed to match each donation and deposit all money collected into the trust fund established for the Kellys. The store will also be hosting fundraising events for the Kellys the weekend of Dec. 5-7.

- Local mall Santa, Shawn Chiasson, will be delivering donated gifts to the Kelly children on Christmas Eve. Toys can be dropped off at Red Carpet Productions, 33b Oak St. in North York, or at the Pickering Flea Market, 1400 Squires Beach Rd., on Saturdays and Sundays

- All Fed-Ex ground drivers in Durham Region will be accepting donations to the family

- A trust fund has been set up for the Kelly family at TD Canada Trust, transit number 3184, account number 6322034.
