WHITBY -- A Whitby man was among eight suspects charged Saturday when Durham police busted what they say is a debit card skimming operation.
Investigators acting on a tip staked out a Whitby gas bar and watched as a group of men removed the debit card terminal, replacing it with what police said was a stolen pin pad. Cops followed the suspects to a nearby motel where it was alleged the pin pad was being altered to allow for the theft of debit card data.
Seven men have been arrested and a warrant has been issued for an eighth suspect. Chandrakumaran Thamarathnam, 29, of Pardon Avenue in Whitby, is charged along with several other men from the GTA with fraud offences. He is also charged with breach of probation.
Still wanted by police is Vigitharan Selvaraj, 21, of no fixed address. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 905-579-1520, ext. 5863 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
